The numbers are a measure of the optical power of the lenses in diopters. Essentially a positive number increases the optical power of your eye (which corrects for farsightedness) and a negative number decreases the optical power of your eye (which corrects for nearsightedness).
Children should have their first eye exam by 6 months, but we begin seeing patients at age 3. Early eye exams are essential to detect and prevent issues like lazy eye and eye turns, ensuring healthy vision development.
